5 Master Edits with Sound - October 31st, 2020
1) Music: Throughout the video I kept music to help transition between the master edits. This music is lighthearted and upbeat, which is what I hoped the video would be. While demonstrating tactics used by major movie producers, the goal of my video was to make the viewer laugh at the same time.
2) Direct Sound: For my Contrast clips, I kept the sound to show the difference in the behaviors of the penguins and lion. While the lion in Africa was soundly asleep, the direct sound helps contrast the scuffling of the penguin feet across the ice. I felt that the point of the clip was demonstrated best by the direct sound of the clips. You can also hear people watching the animals talking a bit, to remind that these videos were taken in real experiences of people and animals in the wild.
3) Music: In my Parallelism clip, I added 'heroic' and intense music to add a bit of humor to the short film. My parents always sarcastically tell my siblings and I how heroic we are when we do our chores, so I mainly added this sound, because of the first clip. I got the idea for the parallelism with the uses of cups when I was unloading our dishwasher. The clip reminds me of my family, and will hopefully make viewers laugh, as it makes an ordinary cup seem so intense.
4) Voice Over: In my example of Symbolism, I used a voice over to read a quote I liked, regarding the symbol I chose to highlight, the circle. When I debated which symbol to use for this master edit, I quickly realized how many circular objects surround me in my room and every day life. Although it is often overlooked, circles are a truly interesting shape, and the voice over of the quote helped reflect this idea.
5) Sound Bridge: In my Simultaneity master edit example, I chose to use a clapping sound effect to relate the videos to each-other. I chose clapping to highlight the exercise my brother and my family was getting simultaneously in different ways. Physical activity is very important and is often applauded, because it is so beneficial for health, so the clapping seemed fitting, and related the videos together.
6) Post Synchronization Dubbing: In my Leitmotiff clip, I used this sound technique to reflect my brother's goofy nature. As he is often smiling, and has a squealy laugh, this sound effect created the leitmotiff in my previous video, and creates Ian's theme of goofiness.
